Research Laboratories Unit

Simple Departmental Structure S.S.D.

The Research Laboratories Unit is focused on coordinating the research activities of the multiple laboratories of the AO AL, and on promoting and strengthening preclinical research activities (particularly in the field of environmental pathologies and mesothelioma), translational and applied-technological research of an interdisciplinary nature in the biological, chemical, physical, IT and math fields, by integrating the network of DiSIT research laboratories and other research organisations.

The research activities - focused on environmental pathologies - are conducted in collaboration with the UPO and its Departments; they are mainly based on molecular science through 'omics' approaches that aim to understand the biological mechanisms involved in the functioning of cells and the body. In particular, the laboratories conduct activities in:

  • proteomics
  • genomics
  • metabolomics
  • synthesis and/or bioconjugation activities
  • biochemistry and cell physiology activities
  • activities in the definition and development of informatics methodologies to support medical processes.

Part of the research focuses on the development of IT approaches and methodologies for medical decision support, simulation and the discovery, analysis and treatment of processes in the medical field.
