Articulation of activities

Health research, considered as part of the Italian National Health Service's (NHS) activities and regulated by legislative decree 502/92, is a crucial element in guaranteeing citizens efficient healthcare that meets the country's real needs for care and treatment.
The Corporate Public Hospital of Alessandria is a health hub in which care, research and education now coexist, thanks to the coordination of relations with the Local Health Authority of Alessandria and the Eastern Piedmont University, which finds its expression in the Department of Integrated Activities Research and Innovation (DAIRI). 
The path of change, led by the DAIRI, is based on taking care of the patient at every stage of his or her illness, through an integrated, multidisciplinary approach and is based on the best evidence.                
The staff's mission is to take up the healthcare needs of all those who choose AO AL, with the overall objective of improving patient care, in the acknowledgement that 'he who researches, cures'. Thus, the Company supports training, research, and the translation of guidelines and good practices into actual clinical practice, with a focus on guaranteeing the quality and reliability of the services provided.

AO AL, thanks to the Infrastructure that is responsible for facilitating activities and conducts a series of research activities that include:

  • preclinical research
  • clinical research from phase I to phase IV
  • translational research
  • population research
  • health professional research 
  • organisational research 

This organisational structure has made it possible to obtain results - which are available in the annual scientific report and by category under the headings of publications, trials and collaborations - as well as a governance of the system achieved through the Research and Innovation Scientific Committee, a supervisory body for the actions carried out as well as a useful forum for all stakeholders involved in the process.
